ADS BRAUN L1590 SPEAKERS
This is a speaker that is capable of great accuracy and realism.
The L1590 also has excellent deep-bass capability with its two 10-inch acoustic-suspension woofers mounted in separate chambers within the heavily braced cabinet. The -3 dB point of this speaker was approximately 28 Hz, so the low-frequency extension is also excellent.
They are in excellent condition... you will notice a very small blemish on the top of one of the speakers as shown in the picture... there are just a few... very very few tiny surface scratches on these speakers... they are so beautiful and impressive it is very difficult to notice... you would have to look intentionally/purposely... the pictures really do indicate their condition well. They sound as good as they look... actually better.
I have the original boxes... plus the tweeters and midrange driver covers for these with all the original shipping packaging as well... the boxes are in as excellent condition as the speakers... rare!
These are heavy... and shipping will require my attention to all the details... which I am willing to do for the fortunate buyer.
I must clarify something very important which was brought to my attention by a recent question concerning the veneer on these magnificent ADS L1590 speakers... the built quality of these ADS L1590's is absolutely top notch... nothing about these speakers is cheap... not the real wood, not the drivers, not the crossovers, not the grills... not the sound, not the power handling... nothing... when I looked up the original list value of these ADS L1590's speakers with the professionals at Sound Hounds HiFi here in Victoria British Columbia... their cost new in the early 1980's was over 3,000 dollars... that would be like 9,000 in today's market... if you live near a HiFi shop why not stop in and ask them what the list price of these ADS L1590's were new... I stand behind the validity of this statement... and I stand behind the quality of these speakers... as found in the excerpt pasted below (Hans Fantel in The New York Times said, "...the L1590 is widely regarded as one of the finest loudspeakers ever made.")
Please read the whole excerpt pasted below written about the ADS reputation...
As for ADS' critical acclaim, there were numerous reviews on the various models in most of the major magazines. The reviews were extremely flattering and favorable to ADS, with many exclamations from renowned critics such as Julian Hirsch saying about the L1290, "...the widest and flattest response we can recall measuring from a speaker with our current test procedures." Another reference to the 1290, "the woofer distortion was perhaps the lowest we have yet measured." Hans Fantel in The New York Times said, "...the L1590 is widely regarded as one of the finest loudspeakers ever made." Ovation magazine reviewed the L1090 and gave it very high marks; High Fidelity gave high marks to the single-woofer L990 as did Digital Audio magazine. Hirsch also reviewed the L780 and gave it the same type of excellent review as he did the 1290. These are just some of the reviews that I have in my file; there are probably quite a few more.
